great cell phone coverage piece
or
a bunch of naked people under a blanket using their cellphones
Adam Overton, July 2010
for the folks at the Eternal Telethon
a bunch of people climb under a large blanket with their cell phones and get undressed. those outside the blanket shouldn't be able to see anything but the forms of people sitting upright. a "spotter" might even be employed to stand guard outside the blanket to make sure no one tries to reveal those covered by the blanket.
for those under the blanket, instead of looking at or communicating with each other, pull out your cellphone and start using it to perform any of the following actions:
- make one or more phone calls and have a conversation or leave a message. be sure the person on the other end of the line is aware you're naked and under a blanket, reminding them several times throughout the conversation: "you know i'm naked and under a blanket right now, right?" (or similar)
- send text messages to friends letting them know that "i'm naked under a blanket right now" (or similar) - whatever you type, and whatever responses you get in return, read them aloud.
- search wikipedia or a news site and read aloud entries on any topics that seem especially relevant right now
- with speaker-phone enabled, play back voicemails that others have left you
- make and perform sound on your phone
perform this as a group until a designated time has elapsed. the group then leaves the blanket together as soon as everyone is fully clothed.
* be sure to only contact people who won't take this message the wrong way (i.e. as harrassment)
