About / Bio
Adam Scott Neal (b. 1981) is originally from Atlanta and is now based in New York. He holds an MA in Sonic Arts from Queen's University Belfast, where he studied with Pedro Rebelo. He previously studied with Robert Scott Thompson at Georgia State University, where he earned a BM in music technology and an MM in composition.

Neal's music has been performed in the US, Canada, and Europe by such artists as the New York New Music Ensemble, the neoPhonia New Music Ensemble, Chicago Miniaturist Ensemble, the Microscore Project, New Music Hartford, and Tadej Kenig. He has presented his work at June in Buffalo, the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival, the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, Harvest Moon, and Electronic Music Midwest.

Neal has been commissioned by French duo Turdus Merula and Alaskan chamber group Ensemble Kunst. Equally at home with acoustic and electroacoustic music, he has also begun to experiment with sound installations and video. Notable collaborations include Parallel Lives with filmmaker Kevin Dotson, and two performances of Three Haiku with Atlanta-based Beacon Dance.

In addition to his compositional work, Neal is an active promoter of contemporary music. For two years, he served as the president of the Georgia State student chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc., and has been an active member of the Atlanta Composers Group and local Audio Engineering Society chapters. He has co-presented numerous concerts in Atlanta and Belfast.

Neal often performs as part of his concert presentations, as a pianist, conductor, improviser, and sound projectionist. He is currently promoting a CD of new age piano compositions titled Late Frost, as well as a collection of his electroacoustic works titled Parallel Lives.
